MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded within the 12S rRNA gene of the mitochondrial genome. Studied extensively for its role in metabolic regulation, insulin sensitivity, mitochondrial function and exercise-related adaptations in laboratory models. One of a new class of mitochondrial-encoded peptides with systemic signalling functions. Independently verified at 98.123% purity by Janoshik Analytical.
MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is a 16-amino acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome — specifically within the 12S rRNA gene. It represents a new class of mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs) that act as systemic hormones, travelling from mitochondria to the nucleus and other tissues to regulate metabolic function.
Laboratory research has demonstrated MOTS-c's role in improving insulin sensitivity, activating AMPK signalling, enhancing glucose uptake and regulating fatty acid metabolism. Studies have also examined its exercise-mimetic properties and its role as a mitochondrial stress signal that coordinates metabolic adaptations at the cellular and systemic level.
All Pureline Biolabs MOTS-c is supplied as a lyophilised powder in sealed vials, independently tested by Janoshik Analytical at 98.123% purity. Certificates available on our Lab Reports page.

MOTS-c has been studied extensively in metabolic, mitochondrial and longevity research. This product is supplied for laboratory research purposes only.
Studies have demonstrated MOTS-c's ability to improve insulin sensitivity in rodent models of insulin resistance, examining AMPK activation, glucose transporter expression and downstream glucose uptake in skeletal muscle.
Laboratory models have investigated MOTS-c's activation of the AMPK signalling pathway, characterising how mitochondrial stress signals trigger AMPK-mediated metabolic adaptations in muscle and liver tissue.
Studies have examined MOTS-c's exercise-mimetic properties, investigating its ability to activate metabolic pathways associated with physical activity including fatty acid oxidation, mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defence.
Research has examined MOTS-c levels in aged versus young subjects and animal models, investigating how declining mitochondrial peptide signalling contributes to age-related metabolic dysfunction.
Laboratory studies have examined MOTS-c's effects on adipose tissue biology and body composition in diet-induced obesity models, measuring fat mass reduction, adipokine profiles and metabolic rate changes.
Studies have investigated MOTS-c's translocation from mitochondria to the nucleus under stress conditions, examining its role as a transcriptional regulator of antioxidant and stress response genes.
Store in refrigerator. Keep away from direct light and heat sources.
Use within 28 days. Do not refreeze once reconstituted.
Stable for up to 24 months when frozen as lyophilised powder.
Standard refrigerator storage conditions are sufficient. Protect from prolonged direct light.
MOTS-c is supplied as a lyophilised powder and must be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before use in research applications.
Allow vial to reach room temperature. Clean the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab and allow to dry completely.
Draw required volume of BAC water into a sterile syringe. Inject slowly down the inside of the vial wall — not directly onto the powder.
Gently swirl until powder fully dissolves. Do not shake. Solution should be clear and colourless. MOTS-c dissolves readily in BAC water.
