Semax (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a synthetic heptapeptide developed by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, based on the ACTH(4-7) fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension to improve stability and extend biological activity. It was developed alongside Selank as part of Russia's neuropeptide research programme and has been registered as a pharmaceutical drug in Russia.
Semax's primary studied mechanism is the upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) — key proteins responsible for neuronal growth, maintenance and synaptic plasticity. Unlike direct stimulant nootropics, Semax acts through neurotrophic pathways to support neuronal health and cognitive function in laboratory models. Semax is supplied as a lyophilised powder and must be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before use in research applications. Semax may also be prepared for intranasal research delivery — a common administration route in published Russian studies.
Allow vial to reach room temperature. Clean the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab and allow to dry completely.
Draw required volume of BAC water into a sterile syringe. Inject slowly down the inside of the vial wall — not directly onto the powder.
Gently swirl until powder fully dissolves. Do not shake. Solution should be clear and colourless. Semax dissolves readily in BAC water.
